Hi Al,

I went for the latter as it happens.

Swings and roundabouts - there wasn't much to choose from in terms of
performance - I tried 'em both.

Yup, I have to take that on the chin: my fault entirely. I tried to use
envy after the upgrade, but it'd all gone wrong by then and envy took
umbrage!

Whilst I am glad to be moving on from Envy, it would be churlish of me
to agree with that statement, since Envy, for all its failings, got me
out of a jam that patience, googling and many hours wasted effort failed
had to, and in so doing allowed me to progress other things that were
hampered by poor graphics performance up until that point.

Anyway, I am now using the nvidia drivers as delivered through Ubuntu
Gutsy, so it looks like the manual triumphs over impatience and stupidty
once again! Here's to Alberto Milone, and to hoping that envy isn't
needed again anytime soon!

Cheers Alberto, and thanks Al for the reply.
