If it's an ongoing discussion and you've been following the
consecutive mails then it means you can follow the thread immediately
on openning the mail, or in the preview pane (depending on your mail
prog) without having to scroll down to the bottom of a potentially
lenghty discussion (maybe lazy but there it is), the disadvantage here
is that it encourages people to leave unnecessary content in the
replies.
