The main problem I have frequently had with burning dvds has been with
permissions - mostly with the device file such as /dev/scd0 the
permissions with the CD burning have been no problem, but for some
reason the dvd write permissions have been troublesome.

This has been until I think (k)ubuntu 7.04 when I think it sorted out
automatically, I am not sure because I would quickly suspect the dev
permissions. fwiw I use k3b for burning.
