Thanks to Jonathan for that recommendation - I got it working today and
I get excellent reception although the conditions can hardly be
described as challenging - approximately 3m in a straight line and one
interior wall to contend with.

And thanks kindly to John for the Matrox card he not only let me have
but also kindly delivered. Again, installed today into the PCI slot
vacated by my Linksys WMP54G PCI card and a significant improvement over
the weedy on-board Trident-based graphics card.

The Linksys card is available if anyone wants it - nothing wrong with it
(I use two others here) other than it occupied the sole PCI slot on my
mini-itx machine at my mother-in-law's house. £15 inc. postage - £12.50
if you collect from Hordle near Lymington. Exellent condition, card,
antenna and driver CD.

The ATI card is mentioned above is still available too. It's a really
nice fanless effort that plays nice with Linux and comes with 128Mb RAM.
Same as above - £15 inc. postage - £12.50 if you collect from Hordle
near Lymington.
