have a look at
http://packages.debian.org/etch/gallery2

which suggests you could safely install
apache2,
mysql-client,
imagemagic,
libapache2-mod-php5, and
php5-mysql

I' pretty sure these are the packages I installed on my lenny
based server except I used graphicsmagick-imagemagick-compat as
imagemagick was broken at the time, any other required packages
were pulled in by aptitude

I've not used etch so there may have been changes between etch &
lenny, the default setup in lenny doesn't seem to
use /etc/apache2/httpd.conf as mine is empty.

/etc/gallery2 has two files apache.conf and config.php
as far as I can remember I didn't need to edit either of these
In fact I had to very little editing, if any, of conf files to get
gallery2 to work as the Debian defaults all seem to be OK
