While I hate to advise it, it might be worthwhile making a ghost of the hard
disk and any hidden partition just in case you need to send it back to acer for
repair or to give you a better selling point (there are those that will run
away from Linux) in the future.

But I'm with the cut your losses brigade, sending it back is going to cause more
problem that it is worth.
