Subject: [Hampshire] Machine crashing - where to look for diagnostics?
In what seems to be a concerted attack over the weekend, both my
myth-tv box and laptop have started freezing, with no ssh or terminal.

The laptop seems to run for about 1/2 an hour or so before freezing.
Only a hard-reset can gain control of the machine again. I've tried
uninstalling some possible add-ons within firefox and not running a
particular java application that I normally leave on (wuala on-line
file storage). Regardless of this trial-and-error approach, the laptop
is still crashing.

My myth-tv machine seems to not like rtorrent (it's running now for
over a day without incident, but I haven't tried running rtorrent
since, so this is purely a hunch I have).

Once a machine has crashed, what are the best log files to look at?
I've tried looking at /var/syslog and /var/messages, but I'm not sure
what I'm looking for. Apart from this, are there any other tips to
help me track down what is causing the problem?

Regards,

Adam
