I found iTunes (on Mac) was horribly slow and broken importing
libraries, so much so that after 6 months of having iTunes on the main
media system where we lived, I only managed to add ~50 songs manually.

It would hang on anything that wasn't an mp3 (play lists, text files,
zip files, large MP3s, etc..

As it was only used for playing from the machine, I just used another
player.
