Hi, this is my first go at using the new list so let's hope I've got it right.
I now have the use of a new laptop. It is a Sony Vaio VGN-FE31H with a
Core 2 Duo processor/s. It has of course Windows XP (Media Center)
installed but I should also like to be able to boot Linux also. I have
run Ubuntu 6.06 from a live CD which seems to find all the necessary
bits and pieces including the Wireless card. Knoppix 5.0.1 Live CD
just froze part way through! There are no Windows CD's with the
machine but there is the facility to backup the system files and data
to DVD which I have done. The documentation (what little there is)
says the hard disk consists of 3 partitions. One hidden having the
restore tools, the C drive for Windows and a D drive that can be used
for data.
Now to my question. Are there any particular precautions I should take
before installing Ubuntu as I am concerned that if I inadvertently
delete partition one or damage the partition table I shall not be able
to restore Windows.
