I'm using wmbattery (a windowmaker dockable applet) and that doesn't
work as well as it did on a thinkpad, but does give me a numerical
figure which seems to be time left. The battery in my N160seems to
have a 3 hour life which is an enormous improvement over the 2
minutes or so of the thinkpad batteries I have.

I personally don't think it worth patching the kernel to get this
working properly as kernels in sid don't last long.
