I had an old Panasonic ToughBook with W98 on it and did the same
thing. Ubuntu (dapper/Edgy at that time) was OK with a D-Link DWL-650+
although the boot logs wagged a finger about how I ought to use a
'proper' supported card. It was fine for 128-bit WEP and MAC address
filtering; WPA was not an issue at that time.
