I was slightly surprised at how easy it was to get them - my wife-to-be
accidentally threw away my birth certificate a week before we were due
to be married, so I had to get one rushed through - all I needed to do
was work out where I'd been born (i.e. which registration district),
make a phone call, and it was in my hands two days later! (this was 16
years ago, a little before e-government really took off)
