I did this myself a couple of years back and ended up buying a copy of
R-Undelete FAT. It was the only app that could see the 8 bit fat
partition on my SmartMedia cards and un-delete the files.

I downloaded it from the internet and paid a few pounds to unlock it.

Since I have made quite sure I don't delete pics from the card
_before_ saving them to the hard disk :-)
