This was the share definition and was suggested to eliminate the
possibility of there being a problem with the read write mechanisms within
nfs, of which I do not have a great deal of knowledge. The original
message stated that there may be problems with mounting at boot and 'stale
nfs file locks' are know to cause problems in nfs.

The sync option, during a data transfer between a client mount and nfs
server share, ensures all data is written to the share before the server
'talks back' to the client to say 'all is well send or ask me for more
data'. This is default behavior in some nfs versions (correct me if wrong)
but it needs to be stated to be explicit if unsure of the current version.
