Subject: [Hampshire] DVD burning 101
Hi all

A few simple questions on burning a DVD from an iso:

1) If an image is apparently correct (according to the sha1) checksum, but
the burned image has problems, do I conclude that it's either the burning
software, the burner itself or the media? I guess what I'm asking is how
good a guide is the checksum.

2) Do we know of any issues burning isos with Windows (Nero) software? At
present, I don't have a DVD writer on a Linux box.

3) Am I correct in thinking that a Live CD (which I can burn) is as good as
a DVD but it will contain fewer packages (which I can download at my
leisure).

As I said in a post last week, I'm thinking of playing around with Fedora 8
this Christmas (and intend to build a new box for this purpose) but I'm
having all sorts of trouble burning a DVD from an iso. The image looks
fine (sha1sum) and the disk does boot - but then I struggle with "Could not
find kernel image: linux" and this occurs for both the 386 and x86_64
images.

I've burned many a CD from an iso, but for some reason, a DVD iso burn
eludes me at the moment.

Cheers
Rob
