A few but note that as from Fedora 8, the "core" has been dropped as all
software is now from the same repo.

No, most Linux distros are pretty mature and it is really down to
personal preference/beliefs. Using Fedora means you can work with Red
Hat Enterprise and its free as in beer cousin CentOS.

Yes, but Ubuntu makes it very easy to install. There are plenty of
Fedora 8 howtos to add them for MP3 and DVD players.
