Well if you know at least what subnet it used to be in then you can set
up a machine in the same subnet, attach a crossover cable or hub and use
nmap to scan for it. If you don't know what subnet it was in (and you
have have tried some likely candidates such as 192.168.0.* and 10.0.0.*)
then you could try using Wireshark (formerly Ethereal) to see whether
the device tries to chat with anyone
