These days, nothing is "optimised" for 2D. In fact, the next
generation of ATi cards will probably lose explicit 2D support
entirely and rely on the drivers to drive the 3D pipeline well enough
to do all the "2D" work needed (the wobbly-window brigade have gone
most of the way to the necessary code for doing this already).
However, that said, even a bottom-end chip will suffice to do pretty
much any 2D work you need it to.
