** end quote [Peter Salisbury]

I have in the past been tempted by teh PalmOS based PDA/phones, but
stuck with a relatively basic unit as my usage currently nowhere near
justifies the expense of a contract.

As it turns out though, the phone I got (same as the one I was looking
at) can do what I wanted it to do, so the sales staff totally missed the
opportunity to say "oh, it can do that like this" and instead went for
"no it can't, but if you get this slightly naff make phone you'll be OK"
(to be fair he didn't call it naff!).

The quality of staff still boggles my mind though.

Before I bought the phone I went into a branch of the same shop in Hedge
End and the sales person lost interest in the first sentence of my reply
to "can I help you" and spent his time trying to get rid of me and
staring towards customers he clearly saw as higher commission prospects.

When I bought he phone in Havant the sales person spent the time
grumbling about the fact that my chip didn't work on my credit card
whilst proceeding to put it hologram first into the reader each of the
10 plus times he needed to do so (amazing how many times you need to do
this in one purchase when you have trade in phones, discounts, the need
to start the whole order again because you got it wrong, etc.!).

Finally, same shop, but Waterlooville branch this time. I went in to get
the car charger replaced because the connector broke a bit of plastic of
the first time it was used (and I'm painfully careful with these
things), which I only found out the second time when I couldn't put it
in again and had to hook the piece out of the connector. The sales
person took a quick look at it, asked for my phone, then plugged the
broken cord in and checked that it worked even though the connector was
broken. He then proceeded to insist that they don't exchange for
cosmetic damage!!! I presume the same would therefore be the case if
there was a massive cosmetic scratch across the screen. Thankfully back
in Havant they didn't bat an eyelid and simply exchanged it.

Ah well, customer service has clearly been abandoned in the credit
crunch - if not before!
