I joined one of the "volunteer to help a charity" sites and offered to
help one then another charity both of which required projects started
professionally completed by volunteers.
Not an uncommon thing for people to do and though I would give it a try
as I enjoyed working with charities in the past (only $work was getting
a full daily rate for my time in those days).
I was quite impressed by the range of projects but rather shocked by some
of the requirements. Having been in the "solving problems" business a long
time you get a feel for what is left out of a brief and can smell a bad 'un.
I was *very* careful to select local projects I am confident I can handle
easily as I do not have a lot of free time.
I was also very careful not to ask too many questions or ask embarrassing
questions - one project was paying for web hosting but had no idea where
thier CRM system was hosted.
Anyway, neither has bothered to contact me so I assume they
* do not want my help and could not be bothered to reply
* thier mailgate has rejected/blackholed the email
(In another part of $work I seem to find a good few charities
run very draconian filters - bouncing lots of valid emails)
* they don't like me :-)
So, back to FLOSS projects in my rare free time...
