After this conversation, and another in real life I bit the bullet and
bought a couple of the 200 units from Amazon. They really are plug and play.
I plugged one in and attached it to a switch on my LAN, then went into the
other room and plugged the other in, some lights flashed and my laptop
grabed an IP from the server at the other end. Job done.
