John,

It sounds like, and I'm assuming[1] that, you have dual booting working
nicely.

As far as the virtualisation goes, you must have a fairly modern
processor to run any kind of windows under a VM. I believe wikipedia[2]
has a good explanation of how this stuff works.

So, unless your processor supports either AMD-V or Intel VT, you're
going to have to keep dual-booting, or run Kubuntu under a VM in windows.

list of processors here (AMD and Intel) I'm almost certain the AMD list
is wrong.
