Not hot the box is "dead" at the mo...

Not really - I just did not want to bugger up the IP change.

Update: I managed to acces the rackspace console!
I installed webmin and configured the second IP as a virtual.
This all works so I now need to reverse the IPs for eth0 and eth0:1

I modfied the configuration but all outbound traffic went pear shaped
and have had to request a reboot.
