Hi Rob,

S-video is a very different animal from VGA. VGA is an RGB format whereas S-video uses a luminance and a single colour signal. S-video will look very much inferior to VGA and is limited to a resolution of 720x586 as that is the display res of a standard definition widescreen TV. The single colour signal means bright colours and colour transitions will be particularly badly affected.

If you went for an HD TV you would be much better off is you could feed it with a DVI cable but you're still not going to get the sharpness and colour depth of a computer monitor.
